Softball Teams Raise $1,500 Through Strike Out Cancer Game

Solon softball showed the power of teamwork on and off the field during a Strike Out Cancer game Saturday, April 25, at the Solon High School softball field.

The event brought together Solon’s high school and middle school teams to face Mayfield, honor loved ones and raise support for cancer research. Players wore Strike Out Cancer shirts, black pants and pink socks. They also created dedication signs that were displayed in the dugout during the games.

Proceeds from concessions and in-game raffles will support cancer research. Together, the teams raised $1,500.

Parent Cheryl Linden, who helped organize the event, said the fundraiser was an opportunity for the softball community to unite around an important cause.

“We know that cancer touches too many people and any help we can give means a lot to us,” Linden said. “I love the sportsmanship shown by both Solon and Mayfield players.”

This year marked the first time the Solon Middle School softball team participated in the event. In a message to families, Solon Middle School softball coach Adam Chesnik expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the high school program. “I want to thank the High School Lady Comets who have carried on this tradition of this game,” Chesnik said.

Chesnik said the event gave younger players an opportunity to support a meaningful cause while building camaraderie across the program. Middle school players were able to watch the high school teams play, cheer them on and gain higher-level softball knowledge.

“It continues to serve as evidence that the Solon Softball family comes together to support each other and causes bigger than our game,” Chesnik said.

Varsity coach Joseph Pfundstein praised the players for their leadership and commitment to the cause. “This is a wonderful group of young women,” Pfundstein said. “They are tremendous role models for the entire Solon community.”
